The Distribution of PHED in Bayelsa State

The distribution of PHED in Bayelsa state is poor. In Nigeria power is generated by the federal government and distributed by the government and the private sector.

Bayelsa state gets power from PHED which has the dead office in port-Harcourt, Rivers state.
In the past years, the IYC; Ijaw Youth Congress in Bayelsa have had reason to go to the office of PHED in a peaceful protest for them to correct their exploitation of the residents of Bayelsa state, where they come to collect bills but leave them in darkness.

The PHED in defence said the residents in Bayelsa state are very reluctant in paying their bills leaving them with little or no capital to run their company.

The PHED in Bayelsa state has come up with a new strategy for the distribution of power. The PHED has divided the state into sections thereby rationing the light between the different sections, the power holding company, however, does not meet up to the expectations. It is surprising that a state such as Bayelsa which is an oil-producing state in the South-South region of Nigeria does not receive adequate power, whereby the residents have little or no power throughout the month but their monthly bill is still extorted from them which is not so in other oil-producing states, for example, Rivers stat have enough power almost to the satisfaction of the residents; especially in the state capital Port-Harcourt, Rural areas in rivers state get a good power supply through stat gt a good power supply through the oil companies working in the state like NNPC, AGIP, Shell and lots more. The Distribution

A neighbouring state to Bayelsa which is also an oil-producing state enjoys the power to the fullest. The rural area gets a good power supply so as the state capital. Bayelsa residents in their rural areas rarely see power supply, leaving them in darkness.

Most times the same thing is attainable in the state capital Yenagoa which causes the cost of production and the cost of running a business in the state so expensive, thereby making goods and services very expensive.

The power distributing company PHED are not doing a good job in the state rotating from little to no light to a very bad current. Their strategy of retraining the light has not been effective leaving some parts of the state in darkness while some suffer from their poor service.

The rotating is seen by the residents as a partial act whereby they complain that a particular area gets the power more than the other for example in Amarrata, Yenagoa one side has been with the power, though not constant for six days and the other side has been in total blackout.

Bayelsa State

Such action should not be seen in a state and not just any state that generates a very high GDP with crude oil. This is seen as abnormal and the headers of the nation and the state ought to see that the problem is rightly solved for the betterment of the state.
